Acceptance is such an important commodity,
some have called it "the first law of personal growth."
-Peter McWilliams
The Light of Acceptance
Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it,
than to accept life unquestioningly.
Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from,
everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end.
What seems nasty, painful, evil,
can become a source of beauty, joy and strength if faced with an open mind.
-Henry Miller

Complete acceptance does not mean subordination
nor does it mean blinding oneself to the weaknesses or defects of the other.
If it did, it would not be acceptance: we must accept with our eyes open.
This acceptance is a real discipline,
and like the will of which it is a manifestation, it is only acquired gradually.

Living apart and at peace with myself,
I came to realize more vividly the meaning of the doctrine of acceptance.
To refrain from giving advice,
to refrain from meddling in the affairs of others,
to refrain, even though the motives be the highest,
to refrain from tampering with another's way of life -
so simple, yet so difficult for an active spirit.
Hands off!
